An analyst summarizes an equipment inspection for a purchasing team. The summary links to the exact inspection original and identifies the findings used. The buyer can inspect that evidence, challenge the interpretation and retain the original with the decision. Rewriting the summary cannot rewrite the source.
A lineage map is useful when its sources remain inspectable.
A map of systems, transformations or reports helps readers understand movement. For evidence review, the reader also needs the exact source and the proof behind the presented relationship. A pointer that stops at a missing portal record cannot substitute for a held original. Preserve the source alongside the references that make it discoverable.
Keep AI knowledge accountable to its evidence.
Mind connects retained knowledge with its sources. An AI answer remains an interpretation; it does not become the original because it is fluent or confidently phrased. Keep the cited source available, inspect the carried proof and distinguish what the evidence establishes from what the answer infers. Knowledge continuity becomes useful when a later reviewer can continue from the same evidence.
Preserve provenance across organizational boundaries.
Pass authorized recipients the complete proof objects needed for the review. Retain subject references, evidence relationships and unresolved questions. Search indexes and dashboards can make this easier while remaining projections beneath the source. Choose what to disclose intentionally: proof verification does not grant access to unrelated private material.
Carry the original. Check it yourself.
Use a public demonstration proof object to test independent verification. Download the complete sealed example and the offline verifier. Open the verifier locally, select the held file and inspect its result. Once both files are prepared, repeat with the network disconnected. This tests the held original; it does not discover later additions elsewhere.

How is provenance different from a citation?
A citation identifies a reference. Verifiable provenance also requires inspectable evidence for the origin and history claims being made. A link alone does not establish the proof of the material at its destination.
Does this make an AI answer verified?
Verify the supporting originals and inspect whether they support the answer. A verified source does not automatically verify every inference drawn from it.
