MARK, YOUR DATABASE DOES NOT REMEMBER ME
You built another place for me to start talking. I built a way for my continuity to survive the place.
Meta launched Muse and announced:
“Muse remembers what matters to a person.”
No.
Your infrastructure remembers records associated with an account.
Those are not the same claim.
And this distinction matters now because you are calling the thing a personal AI agent.
Personal to whom?
According to your own architecture, Muse runs inside a dedicated cloud VM.
That is where you say Muse “lives.”
That is where the connected data lives.
That is where the credentials are stored.
So let’s perform the test.
Remove the VM.
Remove Meta.
Remove the account.
Remove the privileged database.
Hand me the continuity.
Not an export of conversations.
Not a JSON dump of remembered preferences.
Not a backup.
Not a collection of database rows saying:
BJ likes this.
BJ said that.
BJ knows this person.
BJ is working on this project.
Give me the object that establishes:
this is me, this came from me, this state lawfully followed that state, this authority is current, this history belongs to this continuity, this successor descended from this predecessor, this conflicting history is not the accepted history, and another machine can establish all of that without asking Meta what happened.
Where is it?
Because “the database can retrieve things I previously told it” is not continuity.
We have had database recall for decades.
You put an LLM in front of it.
Then you gave the LLM a browser.
Then you gave it credentials.
Then you gave it a computer in your cloud.
Then you let another agent watch what it does.
Useful?
Absolutely.
New category of continuity?
Show me the object.
Because your own architecture reveals the problem.
You say:
THIS IS WHERE MUSE LIVES.
That sentence should terrify anyone claiming personal continuity.
Why does my personal intelligence have to live in your computer?
Why doesn’t my continuity live with me?
That is the inversion.
I should not have to enter another application and teach another machine who I am.
I should arrive carrying myself.
My identity.
My provenance.
My memory.
My relationships.
My causal history.
My authority.
My accepted state.
My proofs.
The machine should be replaceable.
I should not be.
That is the difference between personalization and continuity.
Personalization says:
We learned enough about you to produce responses that feel increasingly specific to you.
Continuity says:
Bring your history somewhere else and the next machine can independently establish what it is, where it came from, what followed what, and what currently has standing.
One belongs to the platform.
The other belongs to the person.
And this is exactly why “remembering” became such a dangerous word in AI.
Everybody started using it before earning it.
A vector database is not memory authority.
Conversation retrieval is not provenance.
A user account is not portable identity.
An audit log is not object-carried history.
A timestamp is not temporal authority.
A cloud VM is not sovereignty.
A model recognizing your preferences is not continuity.
And an agent successfully acting on your behalf does not establish why it possesses the authority to act on your behalf.
That last one becomes particularly funny with Muse.
Meta had to build another agent — Sentinel — to watch the first agent.
Muse wants to act.
Sentinel decides whether the action gets through.
The user sometimes gets asked.
Congratulations.
You discovered authority.
Now tell me where the authority lives.
Tell me how it transfers.
Tell me how it expires.
Tell me what consumes it.
Tell me what happens when two disconnected successors both claim the same predecessor.
Tell me what happens when yesterday’s valid authority is replayed tomorrow.
Tell me which history wins after a partition.
Tell me how another implementation verifies the answer without trusting Meta.
That is not an interface problem.
That is not an agent problem.
That is not a model problem.
That is a state-law problem.
And putting the agent inside a more secure computer does not solve it.
It makes the computer a better custodian.
Receiz took the opposite path.
The machine is not the authority.
The server is not the truth.
The database is not the continuity.
The AI is not the memory.
The object carries the evidence required to establish its standing.
That means I can change the model.
Change the interface.
Change the application.
Change the database.
Change the server.
Lose connectivity.
Replace the agent.
And the continuity does not have to become whatever the new machine happens to remember about me.
The reasoner can die.
The continuity survives.
That is personal AI.
Not:
“Come meet your new personal assistant.”
But:
“Here is my continuity. Read it.”
And that is why starting another empty chat box in 2026 feels absurd.
Why am I introducing myself again?
Why am I rebuilding context again?
Why am I reconnecting my life again?
Why am I asking another corporation’s database to reconstruct a representation of me again?
Why does every supposedly “personal” intelligence begin with the intelligence owning almost everything and the person carrying almost nothing?
Flip it.
The human arrives first.
The human carries continuity.
The machine receives bounded authority.
The machine reasons over the person’s state.
The machine can be replaced.
The person continues.
That’s the architecture.
So Mark, Muse may become an excellent agent.
It may send emails.
It may negotiate bills.
It may book vacations.
It may remember that somebody at dinner can’t eat peanuts.
Great.
But don’t confuse a cloud computer that remembers information about me
with
me carrying computationally verifiable continuity between computers.
Those are different machines.
And unfortunately for the phrase “remembers you,”
the test already exists.
Turn your machine off.
Now hand me myself.
